AUSTRIAIts musical history, its monuments of the Habsburg Empire and its breathtaking castles are the main tourist attractions.
It shares borders with Germany, the Czech Republic, Slovaquia, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy and Switzerland. The Alps area offers the typical Austrian landscapes, ski resorts like the one in Innsbruck, snow covered peaks and lush valleys.
Its capital city, Vienna, is full of important monuments, especially in Hofburg, the old court and fortress, hosting museums, the National Library, the Spanish Riding School and the offices of the Austrian Chancellor. Also worth mentioning are the opera house Staatsoper, the museum of art history Kunsthistorisches Museum, and the MuseumsQuartier Wien, one of the biggest museum complexes in the world, displaying art, architecture, theatre plays and movies.
In the outskirts of Vienna, the sights to visit are the Prater, the Belvedere Museum and the Schönbrunn gardens and palace. Graz, the beautiful Danube banks in Wachau, and the huge bay of Melk are also worth a trip. One of the most attractive spots is Hallstatt, a town located in a region full of lakes and mountains.
