SPAINTourist destination par excellence thanks to its fantastic beaches and its warm weather, Spain offers a wide range of cultural and leisure activities in very different areas.
The Museu del Prado, the Plaza Mayor and the Puerta del Sol are very busy areas in its capital city, Madrid.
In the north-west, Catalunya is the home of the Costa Brava and the seat of museums not to be missed, like the Gaudi, the Dalí or the Picasso Museums. Girona, Lleida and Tarragona, with plenty of medieval art and architecture, are also the perfect location for those loving nature and mountain sports. The modern cosmopolitan Barcelona is home to the church of the Sagrada Familia, the Olympic harbour, the Ramblas, the building of La Pedrera and the Park Güell.
In the centre of Spain, it’s worth visiting the famous Roman aqueduct of Segovia; the Gothic cathedrals of Burgos and León; the walls of Ávila, relic of the fights between the Muslims and the Christian; the windmills and castles in Castilla-La Mancha and the medieval district of Toledo.
Santiago de Compostela, in the north, is a destination for pilgrims, really close to the Rias Baixas, a fishing area of great beauty. The Basque Country, with its excellent cuisine, is home of the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao and host of the famous bull runs in San Sebastián.
The Eastern part, from the Pyrenees to the Costa Blanca, offers very different climates, landscapes and monuments, like the churches built following the Arabic architectural style, called Mudéjar; the Valencia cathedral and the baroque town hall of Alicante.
The Balearic Islands, Mallorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera, are famous for their beaches and their night life. In the south, Andalucía, land of flamenco and host of the Easter religious processions, offers desert landscapes, high mountains and the sandy beaches of Costa del Sol. Not forgetting Sevilla, Málaga and Córdoba, the visit of the Alhambra in Granada is a must.
